Flower-topped Gift Box

Here's a pretty little gift box that might come in handy for Mother's Day.The box is about the right size for earrings or a similar small surprise.The top folds in a swirl, Moroccan purse-style, and the flower is formed by turn-backs on the top (so the colour of the flip side of the paper shows as the flower petals). There's a matching tag, too.

Make sure you score all the fold lines before folding the box. Use a fine-point embossing tool held against a small metal ruler. A bone folder sets the creases. Use d/s tape to attach the join. 

The box fits neatly onto an A4 piece of photocopier card. It is quick and fun to make.

Pleated Easter Egg & Basket

Today I have a "Print It, Pleat It" project - a papercraft design engineered so the design lines simplify the pleating process. One end of the egg is knotted, the other is tied in a bow - so you can enclose a sweet treat. There's a cute basket with a tag, for gift presentation. Clock the origami paper-inspired prints!

With a little bit of practice, you'll acquire the knack of pleating. If you score and pre-fold the pleating lines, the fancy folds will pop into place!

Fold 'n' Twist Valentine

This interactive Valentine is like a TARDIS - bigger on the inside! Pull the tabs to reveal the inner message. This project is my interpretation of an idea I saw in a book by Trish Witkowski (Paper Folding Templates, Apple Press 2012).

A nice feature of the card is how the edges of the heart project beyond the centre square - make sure you cut these carefully. The folds around the centre square are all mountain folds.

The secret of success is careful folding. I use a fine-point embossing tool to score the folds, then use a bone folder to set the crease. 

It's a fun moment when the card unfurls to reveal the TLC message.
